Economic Vitality: Vision

The Vision for the Economic Vitality Action Team is for Corvallis to grow and maintain itself as a vibrant, diverse and sustainable economy anchored by a broad spectrum of local, environmentally-friendly businesses.

Economic Vitality: Goals

1. Buy Local – By 2015, 50% of Corvallis residents, organizations, government and businesses will buy local first. (Buy Local First = When there is a reasonable local choice of product or service, it will be taken.)

2. Invest Local – By 2020, add 1,000 jobs that increase local production by locally owned businesses, both for export and for local use, emphasizing “green”
enterprises.

3. Produce Local – By 2020, increase local production by locally owned businesses, both for export and for local use, emphasizing “green” enterprises; add
1,000 such jobs.

Economic Vitality: Current Projects

1. Eco Limits Community Wide Event (s):

2. Development of an Alternative Energy business cluster regionally:

Local Purchasing Campaign:  work with local institutions such as OSU, government,  and large businesses to initiate a policy of local purchasing.

3. “Buy Local” Events:  Expand the efforts of our current Buy Local campaigns by exploring the successful efforts of Bellingham, Washington, as well as creating a directory of local businesses and products.   |

4. Carrot Mobbing:  A short term project to bring attention to a locally sustainable business by increasing their customers over a short period of time.

5. Move Your $’s :  This project is based on the National “ Move your Money” project. Move Your Money project is a nonprofit campaign that encourages individuals and institutions to divest from the nation’s largest Wall Street banks and move to local financial institutions.

6. Corvallis has a local currency: HOURS.  Now it’s time to move it to the next stage by including more businesses and more community members.
