Local Sustainability Champions

Meet Victoria…

VictoriaI am passionate about seasonal and locally grown food. My love of food stems from the Indigenous wisdom of my grandparents.  They taught me that corn is sacred, that squash is sacred. Their connection to Grandmother Earth through growing food was an idea they instilled in me as a child. They were permaculture gardeners long before that word came into being. I’m always digging up grass to grow more food.

To actively support local farms and sustainable agriculture I participate in a CSA or Community Supported Agriculture program at Gathering Together Farm. Each winter, I purchase a small share of the farm’s future bounty. This enables my farm to buy the seeds and supplies it needs for the upcoming planting season. Then, each week, June through October, I receive a box of fresh, organic produce.  During winter, Corvallis Local Foods is my “go to” online store.  My Indigenous heritage offers a truth when it teaches that “Knowing” food helps us understand our relationship and interconnectedness to all of life.
