Join us for another Edible Front Yard Garden Tour on Wednesday, August 28, starting at 6 pm at the CSC Youth House Gardens, 536 SW 2nd Street, Corvallis. This free guided walking tour is open to the public. It will cover neighborhoods along Western Ave.
This tour is the fourth in a series of neighborhood-based edible front yard garden tours sponsored by the Food Action Team of the Corvallis Sustainability Coalition. The goal is to encourage Corvallis residents to consider edible plants as an option when they landscape their yards, thereby increasing home food production in our community. In addition to fostering greater self-reliance, the team hopes to involve more people in the joys and health benefits of edible front yard gardening: regular exercise, fresh air, healthful and delicious food, and a sense of connection to the neighborhood — and to the earth!
Fifty community members enjoyed this year’s first walking tour of food-producing front yard gardens on July 10. An article about the tour appeared in the Corvallis Gazette-Times. Read it HERE.
The two-hour tour included stops at five additional sites in South Corvallis neighborhoods. Each host resident gave a brief overview of their garden — how they transformed the space, selected what to plant, and overcame any challenges. Most of thetour participants walked or bicycled from garden to garden.
