Join us on Monday, October 30, at 7 pm at the library!
“Exploring Local Affordable Housing Options” is the theme of a forum that will feature presentations by Benton Habitat for Humanity and Willamette Neighborhood Housing Services. This is the first of two forums on affordable housing co-sponsored by the Corvallis Sustainability Coalition’s Housing Action Team and the League of Women Voters of Corvallis Housing Committee.
Addressing the need for affordable housing will require the creative ideas and “outside the box” thinking of members of our community. The Sustainability Coalition and the League are sponsoring these forums to engage more people in this important dialogue.
Although Benton Habitat for Humanity and Willamette Neighborhood Housing Services are well known names in the Corvallis community, many people are not aware of the range of affordable housing options they offer. Forum sponsors encourage the public to attend the October 30th forum to learn about the innovative housing and programs these organizations offer, as well as to find out what community members can do to help support them.
The second affordable housing forum on November 13 will focus on what the City code allows in terms of housing on existing residential properties, ideas for shared housing, and more. Panelists will include City Planning Division Manager Jason Yaich, Housing and Neighborhood Services Division Manager Kent Weiss, the owner of a tiny home, and a homeowner who is reconfiguring her house to accommodate more residents.
