Children are our future. We’re helping them become lifelong learners who model environmental, social, and economic sustainability in their daily lives.
We collaborate with local schools to support their sustainability efforts. We meet regularly, share what’s happening at the schools where we volunteer, and learn what we can do to help advance sustainability practices and curricula at our schools.
PROJECTS & EVENTS
Oregon Green Schools
Our primary project is to help all schools in the Corvallis School District to achieve certification by Oregon Green Schools. Certification recognizes school efforts to engage students in activities that advance their understanding of sustainability. Members of the Education Action Team partner with specific schools to support their student-based Green Teams.
Reducing Plastics in Our Schools
Education Action Team volunteers are helping school sustainability stewards with curriculum to encourage students to develop earth-friendly practices. One example is reducing plastic use at school and at home. Lesson plans are divided by grade level (elementary, middle, and high school) and include YouTube videos, websites and actual lessons.
Green Future: A Website by and for Kids
In 2021, Corvallis middle schoolers Hazel Seivers and Cate Talabere created a website to inspire young people to work toward sustainability and zero waste, and to speak out about climate change. Take a look at their presentation and access Hazel and Cate’s website.
