Join us for the launch of our 14th year!
You are invited to attend the Corvallis Sustainability Coalition’s Annual Meeting of partner organizations and volunteers on Friday, January 24, from 12 noon to 1:30 pm at the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library, 645 NW Monroe Avenue. Everyone is welcome!
The meeting will feature presentations on accomplishments of 2019 and plans for 2020. We have been working on a wide variety of projects in 12 topic areas: Community Inclusion, Economic Vitality, Education, Energy, Food, Health and Human Services, Housing, Land Use, Natural Areas, Transportation, Waste Prevention, and Water. Our efforts are directed toward goals outlined in Community Sustainability: A Framework for Action, which was developed with extensive community participation.
A highlight will be updates on two of our primary climate action efforts:
- Solarize Corvallis – The grassroots initiative to put solar panels at as many buildings in our community as possible by 2025. Partnering with the Oregon Clean Power Cooperative, the Coalition is using community investment to significantly increase the number and size of solar and battery systems installed at facilities such as schools, low-income housing complexes, city and county buildings, and nonprofit agencies.
- No Food Left Behind – A project to prevent wasted food that has been funded by generous grants from the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality. If food waste were a country, it would be the third largest greenhouse gas emitter after China and the US. Yet, 40% of the food grown in the US is never eaten.
The Coalition’s Annual Meeting will include an opportunity for networking and information sharing by attendees, as well as delicious refreshments provided by Coalition partner First Alternative Natural Foods Co-op, which is sponsoring the event. In recognition of First Alternative’s 50th anniversary year, the program will include a special presentation by the Co-op.
