Home/Events/Creative Options Housing Tour

Creative Options Housing Tour

Join us on Sunday, October 8, from 1–5 pm for a self-guided tour that will introduce you to a variety of affordable housing types in and near Corvallis — an accessory dwelling unit (ADU), tiny homes, small cluster housing, and more!

The tour starts at Seavey Meadows Community Room, 1099 NE Sorrel Place, where tour participants will learn about the wide range of housing opportunities offered by Willamette Neighborhood Housing Services, which owns and manages Seavey Meadows. There, tourists will also receive a program and map directing them to four additional sites, including a passive house constructed by Habitat for Humanity.

The Creative Options Housing Tour is being sponsored by the Corvallis Sustainability Coalition’s Housing Action Team to stimulate a dialogue among community members about what all of us can do to encourage more affordable housing in Corvallis. The tour will be followed by two Fall forums to deepen the dialogue:

Monday, Oct. 30, 7:00 to 8:30 pm – EXPLORING LOCAL AFFORDABLE HOUSING OPTIONS
This forum will feature presentations by Habitat for Humanity and Willamette Neighborhood Housing Services, non-profit organizations that offer a wide variety of affordable housing options in our community. At Corvallis-Benton County Public Library, 645 NW Monroe Ave.

Monday, Nov. 13, 7:00 to 8:30 pm – CREATING HOUSING OPTIONS
The focus will be on what the City code allows in terms of housing on existing residential properties, ideas for shared housing, and more. Panelists will include City Planning Division Manager Jason Yaich, Housing and Neighborhood Services Division Manager Kent Weiss, the owner of a tiny home, and a homeowner who is reconfiguring her house to accommodate more residents. At Corvallis-Benton County Public Library, 645 NW Monroe Ave.

Be part of the conversation! Plan to attend the Oct. 8 tour and the follow-up forums on Oct. 30 and Nov. 13.
