Seeking volunteers for November 9th event!
The Corvallis Sustainability Coalition Water Action Team is collaborating with the City of Corvallis to plant over 1,500 native grasses and shrubs to regenerate the headwaters of Dunawi Creek, which has been piped underground for over 100 years. The site is now part of the City’s Bald Hill Natural Area.
The planting party will be held Saturday, November 9, from 12 noon to 4 pm. Participants must register in advance to receive directions to the site, as well as information about what to bring.
The ultimate goal of this project is to regenerate the Dunawi Creek headwaters above ground, back to the stream’s ancient status as a fish-bearing creek. The species planted on November 9th will strengthen the soil structure for the creek banks as the creek is regenerated above the soil surface. The plants will also provide the habitat for all of the fauna that help to produce a healthy, functional creek. Planting party participants will learn about this process and the benefits of the plant species.
To register and to receive further details about the November 9th Planting Party, call Dave Eckert at 541-230-1237 (no texting) or email deckert@willamettewatershed.com.
Organized by Corvallis Sustainability Coalition’s Water Action Team and the City of Corvallis Parks and Recreation.
