Sustainability Coalition action teams have been learning to use an Equity Impact Assessment to evaluate our projects. The tool we’re using was shared with us by Jane Waite, Senior Associate for Social Justice Learning and Engagement at Oregon State University. It has changed the way we work, leading to deeper discussions and new insights as we have planned and implemented various activities.
Some of the areas covered in the Equity Impact Assessment are:
Defining Stakeholders
Who are the different groups of people the project would affect and how have they been engaged?
Inequities
Would the project affect different groups differently?
Root Causes
Why would the project affect some groups unequally and what could we do to address these root causes?
Evaluation
How do we measure the project’s success, and how can we share that information with people?
