Education Action Team volunteers support the Sustainability Leaders and “green teams” at each of the Corvallis School District’s elementary, middle, and high schools. Their support includes developing and assisting with a variety of activities. Some examples of what they do are listed below.
Reducing food waste and composting:
- Volunteers help Green Team members learn about reducing food waste and composting. To do this, they help make posters to hand around the school, show how to use overripe food in recipes, and help students learn about ways to compost, including the use of compost bins and yard waste containers.
Conducting trash audits:
- Volunteers assist Green Teams with conducting trash audits so students can learn about how much of the school’s daily trash contains recyclable materials.

Earth Day activities:
- Volunteers participate in Earth Day Celebrations at their schools, through arts and crafts activities and helping students consider what actions they can personally take to help protect the earth.
- The Education Action Team tables at the Planet Palooza Party at C3 where they share about what they do and how others can get involved.
Tree plantings:
- Volunteers assist with tree plantings to help students learn about the importance of trees in fighting climate change.
The Education Action Team still needs volunteers, so if you’d like to help out, please get in touch to learn about how you can get involved.
