Our team is working toward the vision of a compact, resilient city with walkable neighborhoods, a vibrant downtown, and diverse natural areas interwoven in urban landscapes.
We collaborate with partner organizations, local government, and others to educate our community about sustainable land use practices and to encourage community members to actively participate in land use planning decisions. Our projects focus on three goal areas:
- Community livability
- Land use and transportation
- Community resilience, green building, and natural areas
PROJECTS & EVENTS
Parking in Corvallis
Corvallis has allocated approximately 25% of its land to car dependence. Recognizing that this dependence contributes significantly to our community’s greenhouse gas emissions, the Land Use Action Team launched a project to explore challenges and possible solutions related to parking. In collaboration with the League of Women Voters of Corvallis, we held two public meetings:
Mixed Use Development
Mixed-use development, which combines residential and commercial space on the same property, plays an important role in creating a more compact community. The Land Use Action Team has been collaborating with the League of Women Voters of Corvallis to educate community members about the benefits and challenges of increasing mixed use developments in Corvallis.
Public Education & Engagement in Land Use Issues
Team members are developing an ArcGIS Hub related to parking and transportation choices. This cloud-based platform is designed to engage viewers by providing information and using interactive strategies.
The Land Use Action Team also issues announcements through the main Sustainability Coalition Google Group about opportunities for public input on land use issues being considered by local government.
