“Homesharing: A Sustainable Solution to the Affordable Housing Crisis” is the theme of an event scheduled for Thursday, April 4, from 7:00 to 8:30 pm at the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library. This event is co-sponsored by the Corvallis Sustainability Coalition’s Housing Action Team and HomeShare Oregon.
- Are you concerned about the affordable housing crisis?
- Are you a homeowner on a fixed income, or are you mortgage-burdened?
- Do you know anyone else who is?
- Do you care about sustainability and community building?
If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, this event is for you!
Debi Friedlander, co-leader of the Housing Action Team, will open the program with a brief overview of how homesharing is a sustainable solution to the affordable housing crisis – socially, economically, and environmentally. She will be followed by Judy Smith, Program Director of HomeShare Oregon, who will explain how her organization is expanding access to affordable housing through homesharing – a direct way to prevent housing instability, foreclosure, and homelessness.
Smith will be joined by two additional panelists, Charlotte Fleming and James Dirksen, both of whom are homeowners who have shared their homes through HomeShare Oregon. Together, the panel will respond to questions from the audience.
“We hope this event will help normalize the idea of homesharing,” explained Friedlander. “It’s a common sense way to address the need for more affordable housing.”
Doors will open at 6:45 pm for those who wish to come early to enjoy refreshments and network with fellow community members. There will also be a special prize drawing at the close of the program.
The public is encouraged to be part of this important exploration and conversation. We hope to see you there!
